Louis Xv Style Chest Of Drawers From Rüster, 1900

Chairish

$931

Three-drawer chest of drawers in the Louis XV style, made around 1900 in the tradition of 18th-century French models. The curved drawer fronts, the carved apron, and the clearly structured front create a balanced, cohesive overall impression. Historical context: Around 1900, furniture in the Louis XV style was produced in large numbers in France, as the curved forms of the 18th century were considered the epitome of domestic elegance. Chests of drawers of this type served as storage furniture for linens and textiles in middle-class homes and were usually located in the bedroom or hallway. The combination of hand-carved details and mass production is typical of this era of Historicism. Features: Carved shell rosette with flanking floral tendrils on the curved apron. Original metal bar handles with serrated rosettes on all three drawers. Design: The commode follows the formal conventions of the Louis XV period: a curved front, splayed cabriole legs with volute feet, and carved C-curves on the drawer fronts. The lines are consistently curved, yet remain subtly structured; the ornamentation is concentrated on the apron and leg bases, while the surfaces are kept calm. The proportions are balanced, with a pronounced horizontal line created by the three evenly spaced drawers. Dimensions: Height 94 cm × Width 108 cm × Depth 56 cm. Material and Condition: Solid elm. Well-preserved, used condition with age-related wear. Professionally restored by Kastellan.
