A late 18th century classicist Louis XVI or Directoire chest of drawers. Made from solid cherry wood with a beautiful patina. An authentic piece from the period in a classic design with a geometric shape, restrained but purposeful decoration and a focus on material and traditional craftsmanship. The cherrywood body with 2 drawers, trapezoidal frame and moulded top panel stands on tall, tapered fluted square legs. Drop handles and brass escutcheons create a pleasant contrast on the surface. The cassette back panel and the drawer bodies, mortised with dovetail joints, are made of pine. Dimensions Height: 89 cm / 35.03 inch. Width: 121 cm / 47.63 inch. Depth: 60 cm / 23.62 inch. Internal dimensions of the drawers: 17 cm (6.69 in.) high, 98.5 cm (38.77 in.) wide, 46.5 cm (18.3 in.) deep Partially restored condition with slight signs of age-related wear, including old woodworm channels (not active!) and visible repairs. One handle rosette is slightly different from the others. No keys. Among other things, the following work has been carried out: Putties and wood additions on the top plate. Retouching. Priming of the top plate with a scratch and impact-resistant varnish and then polished over with a shellac ball.
