This 1960s Tobago highboy dresser is a sculptural example of Canadian mid century modern design, built in walnut with a strong, architectural presence. The upper cabinet wears a pair of doors carved with elongated, leaf-like raised panels that run across the front in a rhythmic vertical pattern, catching light and shadow. The whole case is lifted on a dramatic splayed base of sculpted, pointed legs joined by a curved cross stretcher, giving the tall form an unexpected sense of lift and movement. Behind the upper doors sits three drawers of enclosed storage, while the lower section holds two long, deep drawers with softly shaped fronts and recessed wooden pulls.
