Judson Rothschild “Wheels Of Fortune” Black, Gilt And Glass End Table, 2006

Chairish

$1,395

A jewel-box end table with a beveled-glass window revealing an ornate gilt and silvered wheel medallion. Description: Designed by Judson Rothschild for the Rothschild Collection in 2006, this “Wheels of Fortune” end table is a small piece with tremendous decorative presence. Its shaped painted wood top surrounds a beveled-glass insert through which an elaborate carved wheel or sunburst medallion can be viewed. Finished in alternating gilt and silvered tones, the medallion appears almost like an architectural fragment preserved beneath glass. The intentionally distressed black ground is outlined in gold, while the shaped apron carries additional silvered acanthus leaves, gilt shell ornament and fine scrolling details. Four tall, sweeping cabriole-style legs give the table an elegant, animated profile. Its 28-inch height makes it especially useful beside a sofa or substantial lounge chair, while its sculptural form also allows it to stand alone as an accent table beneath artwork or beside a dramatic doorway. The combination of black, gold and silver lends itself beautifully to Hollywood Regency, French eclectic, Baroque Revival and richly layered contemporary interiors. It has the aged romance of a European antique with the designer scale and functionality of a modern decorative piece. A coordinating 66-inch “Wheels of Fortune” coffee table is offered separately.
