This striking 19th-century Italian table is crafted in solid walnut and features a versatile drop-leaf design with an impressive accordion-style opening mechanism. Originally designed as a console or side table, it transforms effortlessly into a spacious oval dining table, offering both charm and functionality. When fully closed, the piece measures just 57 cm in depth, making it an excellent space-saving solution. The two drop-leaf extensions (also called "bandelle") open to form a perfect round tabletop with a diameter of 147 cm. Additionally, two central extension panels bring the table to a generous 245 cm in length, maintaining the same width of 147 cm—ideal for hosting large gatherings. The table has undergone several restorations throughout its lifetime. Some of the turned legs are replacements, yet the structure is solid and stable, with excellent functionality. The rich walnut wood and patina, along with its practical transformation system, make it a rare and highly decorative antique with strong usability. A beautiful combination of Italian craftsmanship, historical character, and mechanical ingenuity, suitable for both classic and eclectic interiors.
