Antique Federal Mahogany Scalloped Drop Leaf Table, English or American, Circa 1790-1810 A beautifully crafted Federal period drop leaf side table in solid mahogany, circa 1790-1810, distinguished by its superbly scalloped serpentine top edge — a hallmark of fine period cabinetwork rarely seen executed with this level of grace. The tapered legs feature inlaid banding at the top where they meet the apron, a refined Federal detail. The top showcases excellent grain selection, with figured crotch mahogany used on the drop leaves for added visual richness. The undercarriage is oak, a secondary wood more typically associated with English construction of the period. When both leaves are raised, the scalloped shape creates a wonderfully sculptural silhouette, making this equally suited as a compact dining or game table, or as an elegant occasional table with the leaves down. Dimensions: 18 1/2"W x 29 1/2"D with leaves down; 36"W with leaves up; each leaf 9 1/4"; 28"H Condition: Refinished surface with use and wear scuffs/scratches to the top consistent with age and use. Structurally sound. Materials: Solid mahogany top and leaves, oak secondary wood
