A smaller scale drop leaf table, known as a Sutherland table named after the Duchess of Sutherland who first had the style made to save space with the leaves dropped and to provide adequate for partygoers drinks with the leaves up. This table is exceptional in all respects with an elaborately carved mahogany base and an exceptional burl walnut inlaid top with further delicate satinwood decorations on the top. The base retains its original ironstone caster wheels. The top measures a useful 30" x 24" with the leaves up, but only 7.5" x 24" with the leaves down. The width of the legs of the base is 14.5". It was found in the Cotswolds.
