Each figure is sculpted against a vertical, hollow tree trunk form and stand on a naturalistic, circular foot. These rustic, hand-made pieces feature a richly textured surface and showcase the expressive, freehand decoration characteristic of Zaccagnini’s work. The undersides are hand-inscribed with "Zaccagnini," model numbers, "Italy," and the distinctive stylized “Z” with a squiggle mark, representing Monte Oliveto. Zaccagnini was a renowned Italian ceramics company, founded in 1905 in Florence by Ugo Zaccagnini. After Ugo’s passing in 1937, his son Urbano took over, and the studio gained international acclaim for its mid-20th-century figurines and decorative pieces, often sold through high-end retailers like Tiffany’s.
