Chinese Carved Figure 19th Century Qing Dynasty - unsigned prior to the 1891 law to identify China in a signature. This is a well carved example of the "an "Ancient" with a staff, and a crane (signifying immortality) and a girl child accompanying him. The girl is offering what seems to be a small bird to the ancient man. The man has teeth. The pegs for insertion into the separately carved base are in the legs; the base is carved out in verso. There is a crack going near extent of the figure left back of the figure grouping.
