Presenting an Awatobi Soyuko Ogre Kachina crafted by the Hopi carver William Lomayaktewa. It boasts an unusual blue face with bear paw motifs. Hand carved from cottonwood, and adored with cowhide, suede, cotton twine, shells, fur, and feathers. Hand painted to finish. The bottom is marked with "William LOMAYAKTEWA., KEAMS CANYON, OGRE, AWATOBI SOYUKO". Measurements 11" Tall x 5.5" x 5" Net weight 6.55 oz In nice condition, this Kachina doll shows slight overall wear from age and previous display. There may be some hair (feather) loss at the top of its head (see last photo). About the carver: William Lomayaktewa hails from the renowned Lomayaktewa Family of carvers. He is documented in Erik Bromberg's book, "The Hopi Approach To The Art Of Kachina Doll Carving." His creations find their place of honor in institutions such as the Indian Arts and Crafts Board and the National Museum of the American Indian.
