Large 18th C. Italian Baroque Carved, Gilded, Silvered Wood Putto Figure Seated. A finely sculpted, highly expressive, and exceptionally large 18th-century Italian Baroque carved wood figure of a freestanding putto. The beautifully modeled figure is depicted seated atop a silver-gilded cloud formation. The cloud is securely integrated into a substantial, stepped architectural plinth base featuring classical vertical fluting. It retains its original hand-forged iron support strap, open dowel sockets for separate wing attachments, and an early hand-written ink inscription in Italian tracking its workshop placement identifying this figure as a prominent liturgical structural ornament. Very good, antique condition. The gilded surface remains largely intact and stable. The cloud formation retains its original silver-gilded finish with appropriate surface mellowing. The carved wood structure is entirely solid. Missing its two plug-in wings. DIMENSIONS: H 33.5” x W 18.5 x D 9”
