White Porcelain Cockatoo By Edouard Marcel Sandoz, 2001

Chairish

$2,136

This white Cockatoo in raw porcelain called "biscuit" is part of a series made by Edouard Marcel Sandoz in 1925. This series called "the bestiary" includes the White Cockatoo, the White or Black Rhinoceros by Jean Boggio in 2001, the Black or White Panther by Georges-Lucien Guyot in 1927, and finally the white or black Dufy vase from 1934. This cockatoo is a very limited edition of 250 copies, it is signed Edouard Marcel Sandoz and bears the number 103/250. Please note that this creation is sold out and can no longer be purchased from the Haviland factory, which makes it an exceptional piece! It is presented in its Haviland box, with its small porcelain presentation easel. This reissued bisque cockatoo is one of the sculptures that caused a sensation when they first appeared at the Exposition des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in 1925. It was in 1915 that Edouard-Marcel Sandoz and William Haviland launched a collaborative project that would long-term link the Swiss animal artist with the Limoges porcelain maker. The sculptor's reputation already earned him a certain renown at this time: considered by some art critics to be a proponent of Cubism, he himself asserted only his own artistic approach without denying any affinities with Art Deco. from 1916 to 1920, Sandoz created a whole series of objects for Haviland that were original in both their colors and their designs. These objects were both useful and aesthetic, including cat and duckling candy dishes, frog salt shakers, bud vases, and piggy banks. Then, over time, new, purely decorative creations were added. These were true porcelain sculptures and, in turn, enjoyed success, confirming the validity of the Haviland Manufacture's initial gamble. This piece has an attribution mark, I am sure that it is completely authentic and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising from misattribution
