The cabinet exhibits strong ray fleck throughout, with paneled sides, a thick overhanging top, and a plinth base anchoring the form. The upper drawers are sized for correspondence and smaller documents, while the lower drawers are built for full-scale filing, each with internal runners and period hardware. A notable feature is the use of wooden strain relief plates at the rear of the larger drawers-simple mechanical stops that allow full extension without tipping or compromising the cabinet's structure.
