Rare Yawman and Erbe MFG. Co., Rochester, NY Oak Filing Cabinet c. 1900. Maker: Yawman & Erbe Mfg. Co., Rochester, NY. Era: Circa 1900–1910s. Features: Quarter-sawn oak construction with brass hardware and label holders. Design: Often produced in stacking sections to allow for customization of file drawer sizes. Gorgeous grain to the wood. Original brass fittings some embossed with Company "Y and E" . This style was mfg. in four parts that seat nicely together. The top three levels can be interchanged to your liking. The top piece will fit on any arrangement you desire. Incredible versatile piece. It's like having several pieces of furniture in one! The last photo is from the ad I had purchased it from. You can see they had arranged the levels differently from my photos. If you would want a shorter version, take out one or two levels and place the top lid on and there you go, a totally different look! There are a few minor condition issues that can be easily fixed with glue. i.e. veneer edge lifting, bottom molding missing on section 2 & 3 left side, can be replaced easily. The backing is as individual as the sections and has some loss but still intact. The backing is of a lighter wood and could be replaced or kept in it's original condition. Lower right drawer, the rod is present however the round grommet for the rod is missing but the rod will stay where you place it in the hole and only move when you open the drawer. These are all minor details that is to be expected with a piece of this age and use over the last 126 years. Over all, this is a fantastic piece, with so much character and versatility, you can't help but find it attractive.
