19th Century English Victorian Rosewood Fire Screen

A fine and rare large victorian rosewood screen, having an ornately carved top, above embroidery, depicting a dog jumping up at a parrot on a perch, with two other small birds on the perch beside it another dog lies on the base of the perch, on the left, holding a feather in its mouth, its paw on a sealed letter after landseer. 1851. The parrots stand and chain are all in bead work. A print of this picture is owned by the british museum and has the following inscription: inscription type: inscription inscription content: lettered below the image with the title, around a crest, and dedication 'by royal command', of the 'engraving from the picture painted in 1839', from the publisher to the queen, and 'painted by sir edwin landseer, r.a. // engraved by w.t. Davey. // printed by j. Brooker // london, published may 24th, 1851, by thomas mc.lean, 26, haymarket, paris, goupil & vibert, 15, boulevart [sic] montmartre, deposé'. Mixed method. The screen stands on ornately carved feet and is in excellent condition for its age. The previous owners of the screen claim that this piece was purchased from a private collection near balmoral. We believe this piece may have been made for the great exhibition of 1851. Width: 102cm depth: 51cm height: 168cm. Wear consistent with age and use.
