An exceptionally rare and highly collectible floor lamp, model 1084, designed by gino sarfatti and produced by arteluce, italy, 1962. A landmark object in the canon of postwar italian lighting, this piece embodies sarfatti’s signature fusion of technical ingenuity and sculptural minimalism, a balance he mastered throughout his long and prolific collaboration with arteluce. The lamp is constructed with a round, tapered base and stem, both finished in sarfatti’s distinctive black crackle paint, a finish uniquely associated with arteluce pieces of this period. This textured surface adds both tactile depth and visual gravity, offsetting the accent at the upper section where the stem appears to run seamlessly through the center of the shade. The shade itself, in anodized aluminum with original patina, is the same form as used on sarfatti’s model 194/n wall lamp, further linking this design to his broader visual language. Beneath the aluminum cap, a wide acrylic glass diffuser discreetly conceals the bulbs while softening the light into a warm, ambient glow. The light can be switched on or off via a control discreetly placed at the top, a small but considered functional detail that reinforces sarfatti’s user-focused design ethos. This particular lamp was sourced from the personal collection of the former owner of indoor lighting, a notable importer of italian design into the netherlands in the postwar period. It remains in entirely original condition, with the original acrylic glass diffuser still intact and in excellent shape. The interior of the shade retains the original arteluce label, confirming its provenance and authenticity. Model 1084 has never before surfaced on the open market. For us usage we could change the plug or use a holiday converter. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker.
