6320 Floor Lamp Attributed To Wim Rietveld For Gispen, 1953

Chairish

$5,796

Fantastic and rare floor lamp designed by Wim Rietveld for Gispen, Culemborg Holland 1953. The lamp has a black lacquered solid metal base and a white lacquered arm with a rubber end, a red lacquered shade which is redone in the original color. The lamps overall condition is very good. Wim Rietveld was the only one of the Rietveld family who managed to produce industrial furniture on a large scale. This lamp was one of the first designs by Wim Rietveld for Gispen from an experimental period when Wim started to work for Gispen. The regular panama lamp, model 6322 wasn’t only much cheaper to produce and to sell but also more functional. So the panama was sold much more than this lamp and the production stopped in 1955 when the normal panama was finished. This is for sure the nicest lamp designed by Wim Rietveld and we are happy to have one in our selling collection. Important literature: Wim Rietveld industrieel ontwerper, Ed van Hinte, 010 Publishers Rotterdam 1996 This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no official proof of authenticity, however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising from misattribution, Up to 250V (Europe/UK Standard). The wiring of this item may be original and might need replacement, if not specified otherwise.
