The element holding the electrics slides easily up and down on the shaft so you can position the light right where you need it. The lamp is extremely heavy and very stable; the four feet are about 14 inches apart The lamp has been fitted with a new socket and shade holder and finial, and rewired with a new cord and plug. The photos show off the fact that every inch of this fine lamp is decorated with hammer marks, adding to its handmade appeal. The black paper shade is shown merely as an example of how a shade will enhance the lamp; it doesn't come with the lamp, that being left to the buyer, who might want a different colored shade or one of another material. A fine example of American craftsmanship and design. Probably created sometime in the 20s or 30s, possibly a bit later. Dimensions: about 65 inches high. Front to back, the element holding the electrics measures about 16 1/2 inches. The distance between the legs is about 14 inches.
