A sculptural, functional imagining of the third letter in the alphabet. The Charlie Floor Lamp from Mazzega 1946 showcases the letter C with the art of fine Italian glass-making and a defining light source. It’s a piece by the MoMA-included designer Carlo Nason. Born in Murano, Italy, Nason celebrates the centuries of glass-making tradition in the Venetian region with modern form. In the floor lamp’s collective shade, Nason accentuates the hooking ends of the letter C with angular shapes. Underscored by unique texture, each shape is handmade in glass by master artisans. The dynamic arrangement of the shapes serves as an impactful visual as it explodes over a slim and sleek metal column. Light beams through the crevices of the interlocked C-shapes to cast artful shadows on the closet wall. The floor lamp’s ambient glow leaves behind a dazzling silhouette.
