This impressive standing lamp features an off-white bell shade and three scrolled legs adorned with acanthus leaves. The scrolls and post are thick heavy hand-forged iron, with a hammered aged iron finish... essentially black, with a bit of a silver luster peaking through. Not a painted finish. The acanthus details are thick cast bronze hammered to form over the scrolled iron, as opposed to stamped sheet metal found on lesser furnishings. The acanthus offer an accent of green verdigris and natural bronze/gold finish. The weight and stance offer great stability, and the mass of the materials used make obvious its truly outstanding quality. A great deal skilled effort and artistry went into the making of this beautiful lamp. No makers mark is found on the lamp itself, other than a stylized "MH" on the brass knob. Believed to be Art Deco period, 1920-1940, but the cord and socket are modern, safe, and operational. Shade is not likely original, but is of suitable style, size, and nice quality.
