Echo floor lamp by Atelier Demichelis. Numbered and Signed. Dimensions: D 38 x H 166 cm Materials: Patinated and Varnished Brass. Laura Demichelis was born & brought up in Provence, in the south of France. Trained at the École Boulle in Paris, she obtained her Diploma in Arts & Crafts, specialising with work in bronze. Her Diploma piece, the ‘Dérive’, won her the top national prize in the competition which the Riboud Foundation sponsors at the National Institute of Arts & Crafts (Inma); & the piece has been frequently exhibited. After several years’ work with the designer Van Der Straeten in his atelier in Paris, she spent a year in Asia, in particular studying ancient bronze-casting techniques in Vietnam. Her creativity was hugely enriched by her familiarisation with precious traditional know-how. In 2014, she settled in Berlin, where for 2 years she worked with the designer Stefan Leo & was introduced to different techniques & new materials, like leather, parchment, glass, thus adding to her design repertoire. In 2016, she set up on her own in the centre of Toulouse: Atelier Demichelis, where she designs & makes contemporary lighting and other furnishings & fittings in bronze. All her creations are hand-made & signed, either one-off or in a short numbered series. Laura draws her inspiration from her travels, but also from nature & daily life — so long as there is a story to tell. Up to 250V (Europe/UK Standard).
