A French Regency Louis XVI style bouillotte beechwood and bronze floor lamp from France c. 1930, now wired for American electricity. The original of this lamp originated during the mid eighteenth century in France to accommodate the enthusiasm of those gamblers willing to indulge their passion for the game of chance known as "bouillotte" late into the night.. The top triangle central shaft supports the three candle arms whose nozzles contained candles. The distinguishing aspect of a bouillotte lamp is the shade. It was made of "tole" or painted metal and was chosen because it only let light escape onto the gaming table or toward the ceiling, never in the direction of a card player's eyes. These lamps add a certain sense of high style when they are chosen to be a part of the decoration of a handsomely furnished room. Great for any corner in the house!
