Mathieu Mategot first worked with sheet metal in a German prison camp, where he learned the potential of the material firsthand. He went on to patent Rigitulle - a technique for perforating and folding metal almost like fabric - which became the basis of his most recognized work. The Satellite Floor Lamp (1953) is one of them: an indoor lamp conceived in the postwar spirit of technological optimism, adapted by GUBI for covered outdoor spaces. The ovoid shade remains unchanged, casting diffused light around a space while the aluminum cap reflects it downward in an interplay of glow and shadow. Bulb (not included): 5W LED, 810lm. Made in China.
