4 Mint, 6X6 Lewis Foreman Day "Embossed Floral" Tiles For Pilkington's Tile & Pottery Of England

Chairish

$2,000

This set of four Art Deco tiles by the English Pilkington Tile and Pottery Company features a bright, glossy glaze and a distinct Tudor-inspired pattern. The original design was registered in 1906, with each tile’s back marked by the model number, the letter “P” for the manufacturer, and the number 171186, confirming it as a Day tile. Day collaborated with the company from around 1900 to 1902. The richly glazed earthenware creates deep, vibrant colors and a high-shine finish, hallmarks of the era’s style. Based in Clifton, England, the company produced tiles, vases, and various wares, earning a royal warrant in 1913 after King George V and Queen Mary—longtime collectors—visited the facility. These tiles are believed to have been made between 1900 and 1902, with their design attributed to Mr. Day (1845–1910), a British decorative artist and prominent figure in the Arts and Crafts movement.
