Antique 19th Century Syrian Damascus Inlaid Folding Table With Mother-Of-Pearl

Chairish

$4,500

A striking 19th century Syrian folding table, likely crafted in Damascus during the late Ottoman period (circa 1860–1880). This example features intricate geometric micro-mosaic marquetry inlaid with mother-of-pearl, arranged in traditional star and polygonal motifs. The octagonal top centers on a layered star medallion framed by repeating geometric bands and a continuous Greek key border. The apron, legs, and lower stretcher are also inlaid — a detail associated with higher workshop quality and more elaborate export pieces of the period. The underside reveals hand-constructed radial bracing and solid wood panels, consistent with authentic 19th century Syrian folding tables. The folding mechanism functions properly, and the table is structurally stable. The craftsmanship reflects the refined decorative arts tradition of Damascus, where furniture of this type was produced for both local elite interiors and European export markets.
