19th Century French Louis Xv Painted Footstool With Aubusson Tapestry

Chairish

$1,280

Add authentic French character and rich textile color to an interior with this elegant antique footstool. Crafted in France circa 1880, the long rectangular stool features a carved beechwood frame finished in an aged off-white painted surface with attractive crackling, rubbing, and exposed wood consistent with time and use. The shaped apron is embellished on all sides with hand-carved floral rosettes, scrolling foliage, and delicate shell motifs. Six short cabriole legs continue the graceful Louis XV design and terminate in carved scroll feet. The generously padded seat is upholstered with an antique Aubusson-style tapestry fragment depicting scrolling foliage, flowers, and fruit in muted shades of blue, rose, burgundy, gold, and cream. A row of aged brass nailheads secures the textile and provides a warm decorative border. Compact yet visually substantial, the stool would be ideal as a footrest, fireside accent, low vanity stool, or decorative piece beneath a console table. The antique stool is in good condition commensurate with age and use, with visible wear, fading, small separations, and old repairs to the tapestry, together with expected distressing to the painted frame. Please refer to the photographs for details. Dimensions: 25.75” W x 11.5” D x 8” H.
