The top contains a 'kylin', a mythical dragon-like creature signifying good fortune and prosperity. Both side sections feature an upside-down bat, a universal symbol of good luck, plus small, beaded carvings adorned with circular symbols for long life and prosperity. Additionally, the bases of each side section are shaped into scrolls, displaying delicate carvings of bronzes and vases of flowers. The design is completed by open carvings of scrolling florals. The carved sections feature traces of color, with varying reds, blacks, and browns, indicating that the bed may have originally had a vibrant finish.
