Abat-Jour Conique by Vitra is a lampshade, designed by Jean Prouvé, with a simple, geometrical form that is also reflected in its name: Abat-Jour Conique is French and literally translates to "conical lampshade". Earlier in the 1940s, Prouvé had designed an extremely minimalist lamp called Potence, and the Abat-Jour Conique was created in 1947 specifically as an add-on for Potence. Prouvé is known as a pioneer of modular design solutions, and the Abat-Jour Conique is also an excellent example of his ideology: the lampshade fits both the Potence lamp and its smaller version, Petite Potence, and it is easy to both install and remove as needed.
