Antique bronze oil lamp with figural putto, or cherub, supporting the central stem. This piece is in the Grand Tour style, most prevalent in the 17th-19th centuries. The style takes its name from the traditional trip through Europe undertaken by upper-class young European men of sufficient means and rank, typically around the 21st birthday. Despite taking much of its inspiration from Italy, the style also borrows from French, German, Belgian, and Swiss movements. This piece depicts a cherubic figure holding up a central pole with topped with a gryphon head finial that end in a floral scroll motif hook that supports the chained oil vessel, adorned with lion heads.
