This item is called perfume lamp due to its ability to evaporate essential oils or perfume. The porcelain body gets heated up by the warmth of the light bulb and this evaporates the essential oils inserted in a compartment. Its original function other than being decorative was also to help purify the air in a time when smoking inside was still very common.
