Early 20th Century Tree Trunk Lamp Base With Grape Leaded Shade

The base of this lamp is a classic tree trunk with twisted roots made by or for the Unique Art Glass and Metal Company of New York. The Unique Art glass company was open from 1889 to 1917. Electrified lamp were made begining in 1907. The base is cast spelter with a patinated copper finish. This base is the largest one of this style and stands 30.5" tall. The diameter of the base at the bottom is 11.25". The underside of the base has an x-crossed cast iron counterweight screwed into a threaded iron pipe that goes to the top. Unique did not mark their bases or shades. The shade is leaded glass. It was made by an unknown maker. It has a grape vine motif going around the bottom. Above the grape motif, there are 6 rows of green cut glass in an in-line brick pattern. This shade is very similar to a John Morgan shade shown on Leaded Lamps.com. The shade measures 24" in diameter and is 11.75" high. A cast bronze cap that is 3 38" tall sits on top of the shade. The resulting lamp is a marriage of the above described three pieces and stands 34" tall. This listing is for the amazing base, the shade, and the cap.
