Extraordinary, extremely rare, very early, Aldo Londi pair of spectacular, enormous lamps for Bitossi Raymor. This pattern is so rare that my Bitossi International Identification group could only find a singular vase, which is included with my photos along with its Raymor sticker. I was also honored to receive a text from son, Guido Bitossi in Italy. (See photos) According to Mr. Bitossi, this early 1950s Londi pattern was the first attempt to created a sponge affect pattern which was later revived in the 1960s in Londi’s green and Rimini blue designs. The lamps are awe-inspiring. They are massive and each lamp must weigh close to 20lbs. The massive obtuse bodies, widening in the center and tapering at the top and base, allows these enormous pieces to appear elongated and elegant instead of cumbersome. Using soft rounded corners, each lamp is composed of 4 panels. Each panel is hand painted. The freeform detail and artistry is extraordinary. All 8 panels, have matching geometric, overlapping squares in a hashtag design, in a vibrant palette of olive green, blue/gray, yellow and deep forest green. The ceramic body is slightly off white in color. The finish is a polished matte. The lamps are in excellent vintage condition. There are some minor hard to detect, faint blemishes to the surface. Naturally occurring minute air bubbles and an indent or two which occurred during firing. The off white metal stems have some minor yellowing. They could be repainted to new. There are some brown spots here and there that seem to come off with a soft cloth and mild soap I have cleaned many of them but the sheer size and weight of each lamp, prevented me from accessing the entire exterior for fear of dropping one. There are no chips, cracks or worn areas on the painted design Measurements Each lamp measures approximately 3.5 Feet Tall With a lampshade 5+ feet. The wiring is immaculate, as seen in photos. It would appear these must have been stored for decades Shades not included The harps are rusted in place. They can be removed but not by this lady! In fact unless you have gargantuan shades, shorter harps would be more suitable. Rare, once in a lifetime offering. Aldo Londi for Bitossi masterpieces. Exceptionally rare as a pair and in this condition
