Circa 1950s Hand-Carved Folk Art Chairs & Ottoman By Joseph Deveau Set- 3 Pieces

Chairish

$2,895

Pair of folk art hand carved chairs with footstool by Joseph Deveau (1901-1999), made by the artist for himself and his wife. Deveau crafted his furniture each evening over several decades during the mid 20th century, All of his pieces were painstakingly constructed from single pine logs and decorated with a variety of chip carved motifs including hearts, diamonds, horseshoes, starbursts and other fine details. Deveau lived most of his life in Essex, MA., but was originally from Nova Scotia. His work, though uniquely American, shows the distinct influence of the French Canadian tradition of “en bois” woodcarving and folk art embellishment. Chair on left measures 12" wide x 16.25" deep x 32.25" high, seat height 16.5". The stool is 10.25" in diameter x 5.5" high. It is dated 1940. Chair on right measures 16" wide x 18" deep x 34.75" high, seat height 16.5".
