Art Deco Upholstered Walnut Lounge Chair, 1930s

Chairish

$789

Walnut bentwood armchair or lounge chair of probably german origin. Design and construction of frame corresponds with or Jindrich Halabala UP Zavody's production from Czechoslovakia. Armchair was completely restored, all wood parts. Upholstery is non original, reupholstered about 40 years ago, fabric is in a very good undamaged condition, only light stain to the bottom cushion, will require a good clean if used in future. Spring system is fine to the back rest, bottom is already medium soft, but still usable. I would recommend to do reupholstery work though. Light frame made of walnut wood was completely dismantled, stripped of original varnish, hand sanded and coated in 8 layers of Osmo hard wax oil to velvety semi matte finish. Wood has its original color and has not been stain with color. It intentionally has some original light marks or use and age. At the moment seat height is mere 40 cm but with new upholstery it can be changed and also if foam is used instead of spring it can be much lighter. Height is 78/85 cm without/with back rest. Seating is comfortable, it is medium upright and armrests are in a good height.
