Elm, Cane, And Sheepskin No. 1588 Lounge Chairs From Fritz Hansen, Denmark, 1940s, Set Of 2

Chairish

$14,526

Exceptional and highly sculptural pair of Fritz Hansen lounge chairs, model No. 1588, designed and produced in Denmark during the 1940s. Crafted in beautifully patinated solid elm with elegant curved arms and hand-woven cane seats, these chairs exemplify the refined craftsmanship and understated modernism of mid-century Danish design. The chairs are accompanied by newly made, removable sheepskin cushions. Both the seat and back cushions are brand new and handmade by a master upholsterer, executed in the finest materials, including long-haired organic sheepskin of exceptional softness and quality. The cushions enhance comfort while maintaining the integrity of the original design. Notably, the chairs are designed to be used with or without the back cushions, allowing for versatility in presentation—from a clean, architectural cane-back profile to a more relaxed and luxurious lounge configuration. Both chairs are fully authentic, retaining their original Fritz Hansen labels and stamps underneath, confirming origin and period. A rare and highly desirable pair, combining historical importance, sculptural form, and modern usability. Both chairs are in great vintage condition. Wood shows a warm, even patina with minor age-appropriate wear. Cane seats are intact and strong. A timeless and collectible pair suitable for a living room, library, or design-focused interior. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no official proof of authenticity, however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising from misattribution
