Chairish

$4,416

A gorgeous and very rare designer mid century cream leather and chrome cantilever armchair in lovely vintage condition. Designed by paul tuttle and made by high-end swiss firm strässle in the early 1970s, this fabulously stylish and extremely comfortable zeta lounge chair will add superb quality and an ultra-chic mid century aesthetic to any interior. particularly rare being finished in the original and timelessly elegant cream leather, this robust and reassuringly heavy lounge chair gains its name from the beautifully designed z-shaped curved chrome cantilever frame, which allows a gentle rocking motion while relaxing. The curving back and seat are generously sized and finished in the original superb quality plush, padded and elegant cream leather, to ensure the utmost comfort. beautifully crafted and toned, it marries a minimalist bauhaus-influenced shiny, metallic frame with luxurious and elegant plush leather; the overall effect being a mouth-wateringly sophisticated 1970s ‘lake como’ aesthetic. the zeta chair also goes by the name of the z chair and was originally known as the ‘rocket launcher’ chair when young american supremo designer paul tuttle won the first ever carson pirie scott young designer award for its design in 1966, after which strässle started manufacturing the chair, with this one likely dating back to the early 1970s. all in all this is a wonderfully stylish, extremely rare and superbly comfortable designer lounge chair of the highest quality, which exudes ultra-chic sophistication and will be a knockout in any setting. condition this is in good vintage condition. Beautifully crafted, reassuringly heavy and structurally sound, it has the original strässle international label affixed to the underside. It has minor to-be-expected signs of its age including some rubbing to the underside and corners of the front of the seat, a few small, hard-to-see hairline cracks to the seat leather and areas of light scratching and pitting to the chrome. The downward-facing back has wear to the leather, probably from being stored on its back, with some crease marks, slight discolouration and a nick to the leather. The chrome has been cleaned and the leather treated to keep it rejuvenated. Overall it's a fabulous rare designer lounge chair in lovely vintage condition and if well looked after it should remain just as gorgeous for another 50+ years – please see the photos. measurements height – 73cm, width – 67cm, depth - 85cm, seat height to front – 44cm, seat width – 59cm, seat depth – 46cm, est weight – 40-50kg. this piece has an attribution mark, i am sure that it is completely authentic and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising from misattribution
