Mid-Century Modern Model 91 Bear Lounge Chair In Teak By Svend Skipper, 1950s

Chairish

$6,092

A teak and velvet lounge chair in the Danish Modern tradition, designed by Svend Skipper as Model 91, known in Denmark as the Bamse Stol, or Bear Chair — produced in the 1950s and immediately recognisable by its bold, enveloping silhouette and distinctively sculpted teak arm tips. The form is generous without being heavy. A high, channel-stitched back rises into broadly flared wingback ears, accompanied by a loose, attached headrest cushion that adds both visual interest and practical comfort. The arm tips are the chair's signature detail: solid teak, tapered to a smooth point, projecting outward from the upholstered arms with a quiet self-assurance that has made this model consistently sought after. The chair sits on a six-point spider base in teak — a considered structural solution that distributes the chair's visual weight low and wide, giving the whole piece a grounded, planted quality from every angle. The original olive-green velvet upholstery remains in place, showing an honest, well-worn patina consistent with age and use. Over time, the velvet has softened into a muted, earthy tone that pairs particularly well with the warmth of the teak. Suitable for reupholstery, though increasingly compelling in its current state. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs, designer records, or other literature sources and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising from misattribution
