This rare pair of armchairs was designed in the 1920s by Mücke & Melder, a key name associated with early Bauhaus-era tubular steel furniture. The chairs are exemplary of the period’s functional modernism, combining a sculptural tubular steel frame with generous, comfortable upholstery. The chairs retain their original upholstery, presented in vintage condition, showing visible patina, light staining, and small holes consistent with age and use. These signs of wear contribute to their authenticity and historical character. Both chairs have been fitted with new bottom support plates, ensuring structural reliability while preserving originality where it matters most. The chromed tubular steel frames are in very good condition, remaining solid, well-aligned, and structurally sound. The gently cantilevered form and curved armrests with wooden arm pads reflect the experimental and ergonomic ideals of early modernist design.
