Esko Pajamies For Asko, "Bonanza" Settee & Side Table, 1960s (Set)

Chairish

$3,200

Esko Pajamies' (Finland, 1931-1990) "Bonanza" settee and side table showcase the brilliance, restraint and craftsmanship of Danish midcentury furniture design. The set embraces minimalism in its form, function and materials, but the construction is complex with multiple elaborate wood connections. Dovetail joints are shown at the front edges of the armrests and tabletop while less visible mortise-and-tenon joints connect one section of framing to the next. Each of these techniques combines to an assembly that is - at once - practical, stable and comfortable as well as elegant and timeless. The seat cushions are secured onto the structure with screws, while the back cushions are loose - yet they are customized to snuggly hug the armrests. The black leatherette upholstery is believed to be original. The large, round buttons that structure the upholstered surfaces are the perfect show of restrained ornamentation. The "Bonanza" furniture line was designed by Pajamies for the Finnish furniture company Asko around 1960. The remnant of an Asko label can be found on the underside of the table (included in images). We feel confident that this set is part of Bonanza line and will take full responsibility, if someone is able to prove otherwise. Also listed for purchase in our shop are a pair of armchairs that match this settee and side table, which all hail from the same estate. An image of all items shown together are included in this listing. Table: 28.875”W x 24”D x 21.25”H
