This is a mahogany settee in the classic or Empire style with updated upholstery. The classic lines are decorated in each corner of the crest with floral, almost Art Nouveau carvings. The urn shaped back splats bring the Empire feel. The seat still has its traditional hand-tied coil spring seat construction, indicative of early 20th-century craftsmanship and the springs were reinforced. The upholstery is a paisley print jacquard in seafoam and teal tones with cream. Included is a coordinating down-filled lumbar pillow in the matching paisley fabric, adding both comfort The sweeping arms and overall silhouette suggest that this piece was used as a formal parlor or hall settee. The brass casters indicate it was meant to be moved easily, common on quality seating from roughly 1890–1925.
