Exceptionally carved vintage 1940’s mahogany Chippendale settee. The backrest features two highly ornate, intricately carved ribbon or fretwork splats flanking a central solid vase-shaped splat. The cabriolet front legs are curved outward at the knee and taper downward and are decorated with detailed acanthus leaf carvings. The legs terminate in ball and claw feet a hallmark of 18th-century English and American furniture design. The top rail of the backrest features a rhythmic, undulating curve with carved corner ears. The seat is covered in a diamond patterned ultra suede. It does show some light overall soiling. It could easily be professionally cleaned or replaced with your own fabric. The frame is in excellent condition with no breaks or repairs.
