Late 19th Century Napoleon III Portico Barley-Twist Marquetry Mantel Clock, French 1880. This beautiful and highly sought after marquetry detailed portico clock was handcrafted in France from a dark burled walnut wood with intricate satinwood marquetry detailing with dialed signed “Le Roy A Paris”. The Le Roy family is well known amongst Parisian clock makers with the most notable makers from the family being Charles and Julien Le Roy. Marquetry case contains four tapered barley twist ebonized columns that sit upon a stepped architectural base with bronze ormolu mounts surrounding the white enamel and bronze ormolu dial and pendulum. The eight day movement dial strikes once on the bell every half hour and is in working condition. "Le Roy A Paris" to back of clock as well as "2273" for the model number.
