Chairish

$5,200

Italian mid-century three-piece modular sofa by Carlo Bartoli for Rossi Di Albizzate in original leather upholstery. Matching standalone sofa and armchairs available, sold separately. Carlo Bartoli (1931-2020, Milan) was a prominent Italian architect and industrial designer whose career spanned architecture, furniture, and product design. He graduated in architecture from the Polytechnic University of Milan and established his own studio in 1960, initially focusing on architectural and interior projects before turning increasingly toward furniture and industrial design. Over his long career, Bartoli collaborated with numerous leading Italian design firms and his work has been exhibited internationally, with pieces such as the Gaia armchair (for Arflex) held in the permanent collection of MoMA in New York and awarded prestigious design accolades including the ADI Compasso d’Oro for lifetime achievement. For Rossi di Albizzate, a high-end Italian furniture manufacturer known for post-war modern and post-modern design, Bartoli produced a series of distinctive furniture designs from the late 1960s through the 1990s. His contributions include notable seating and living-room pieces such as the Down and Blop sofas and modular systems, which exemplify a playful yet refined exploration of form, comfort, and material typical of Italian design of that era. One of his sofas, Tube, received the IF Award for Good Industrial Design in 1995.
