Mount Vernon, George and Martha Washington's family estate, licensed this lovely design. The Washingtons had a deep affinity for stoneware and creamware and used it extensively. Salt-glazed fragments excavated from the grounds were replicated in great detail for this pattern. The most well known style of the period, English Staffordshire stoneware was popular by 1765. A favorite with brides, Mottahedeh specializes in luxurious patterns and unique, elegant shapes that are reproduced from china found in museums and historical societies. The patterns feature complex and vibrant colors, and hand-painted gold decoration. The pieces are surprisingly fresh and timely, and look wonderful in both contemporary and traditional dining rooms.
