Late 19th Century English Pine Washstand With Blue And White Tile Backsplash

Chairish

$595

An English pine washstand, circa 1880, displaying the simple elegance and functional craftsmanship associated with the late Victorian period. The raised backsplash is inset with four Aesthetic Movement blue transferware tiles attributed to Thomas Boote featuring a stylized floral motif, framed by shaped side supports that lend architectural interest to the form. The original white marble top provides a durable and practical work surface above a single drawer fitted with period brass pulls. The base is supported by four finely turned legs accented with incised ring details, a feature that adds visual rhythm and refinement to the otherwise restrained design. The pine retains a naturally warm patina, softened by traces of historic paint and wear consistent with age and use, contributing to the piece’s authentic character. The timeless combination of painted pine, marble, and blue-and-white tiles makes this washstand equally suited for use as a bedside table, hall piece, or decorative accent in both traditional and contemporary interiors. A charming and versatile example of late 19th-century English country furniture. Marble top height: 28.5”
