Pair of 18th Century Italian walnut and fruitwood inlaid commodinis or bedside tables with the original inset verde marble tops. The tables of Sicilian origin, Circa 1780, have a distinctive Neoclassical bombe form and hold two drawers in their case. Each drawer features traditional bat wing backplates and bail handles of brass and a baroque bronze escutcheon with matching original key. The cabinets show intricate wood details all over- the drawers are checkered symmetrically with light and dark veneers, feather and cross banded, and having inset string inlay. The cases have intricate marquetry on either side accented by a diamond inside of a banded frame. The backs of the cabinets are also veneered but remain unfinished. Gilded and nulled horizontal details over and under the drawers further highlight the ornate cabinets which are raised on cabriole legs. They would make excellent side tables or bedside tables. Each table measures 12.5" deep x 21.5" wide x 30" tall.
