This is a Vitra Soft Pad Chair EA 208, designed by Charles and Ray Eames. The chair was designed in 1969 as part of the Soft Pad Group, a further development of the Aluminium Group. The design is characterized by sewn-on cushion units with polyurethane foam padding, which offer increased comfort compared to the Aluminium Chair. The side profiles, armrests, and four-star base are made of die-cast aluminum. Our example is from early production, around 1970, and features the Miller logo under the crossbar. The aluminum parts are polished, not chrome-plated. The armrests are black. The original hopsack upholstery is a coarsely patterned purple-black and is attributed to Alexander Girard. The chair swivels and has a five-star base for increased stability.
