VINTAGE SOLID OAK ADJUSTABLE SWIVEL OFFICE CHAIR WITH ORIGINAL CASTERS A beautifully preserved early American office chair crafted from solid oak and retaining its original cast-iron mechanical adjustment system, swivel function, and original rolling casters. Built during an era when commercial furniture was designed for generations of service, this substantial chair combines the warmth of quarter-sawn oak with the honest engineering of exposed industrial hardware. The sculpted saddle seat, broad crest rail, and graceful spindle back create a silhouette that feels equally at home in a historic library, executive office, designer loft, or curated study. The chair retains its original oak finish, which has been lovingly maintained and carefully restored over time. Rather than being stripped or heavily refinished, the finish has been preserved to showcase the natural character of the oak and the rich patina developed through decades of use. The result is a surface that highlights the exceptional grain patterns throughout the seat, arms, and backrest while remaining true to the chair’s history. One of the most remarkable features is the original cast-iron adjustment mechanism located beneath the seat. The mechanical components remain in excellent working condition, with smooth swivel action and properly functioning height adjustment. The exposed hardware provides a striking contrast against the warm oak and serves as a reminder of the chair’s commercial origins. The chair also retains its four original casters, allowing it to roll and function much as it did when first placed into service. The combination of original hardware, preserved finish, and fully functional mechanics is increasingly difficult to find in surviving examples of this quality. Solidly constructed and exceptionally well preserved, this chair represents the marriage of Arts & Crafts craftsmanship and early industrial design. It is both a practical seating piece and a collectible example of American office furniture from the early twentieth century.
