Introducing a rare set of four Model 72C armless executive chairs designed by the incomparable Eero Saarinen for Knoll. All four chairs are stamped "1967" making this set an early example of the Model 72C making this set ideal for designers and collectors alike searching for an authentically vintage set of executive chairs that are ready for a lifetime more of use. Recently and painstakingly restored this iconic set offers new brown cotton bouclé upholstery redone and hand-stitched in exact accordance with the original scheme and layout. The sculpted bentwood walnut legs have all been hand-sanded and refinished bringing the woodgrains back to their original luster. Arguably one of the most iconic office chairs of all time, the Saarinen Executive Chair has remained one of Knoll's most popular designs for nearly 75 years. The design, which is now found in home spaces as often as it is in offices, completely transformed the notion of what executive seating could be with its sculptural form and modern finishing. In homage to the influential design and designer, this set features an attention to detail only capable of craftsmen who respect both the process and pride of such timeless creations. Eero Saarinen was an icon of architecture and furniture design throughout the 1950s. Born in Finland Saarinen's major commercial works include the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, Dulles Airport, the TWA terminal al JFK Airport, the GM Technical Center in Warren MI, and corporate headquarters including John Deere, IBM, and CBS. Besides architecture, Saarinen achieved fame as a furniture designer. During his long association with Knoll he designed many important pieces including the "Grasshopper" lounge chair and ottoman (1946), the "Womb" chair and ottoman (1948), as well as his most famous "Tulip" or "Pedestal" group and Model 72C Executive Chair (1950). Saarinen tragically died while undergoing an operation for a brain tumor at the age of 51 in 1961.
