With its series of elliptical cushions – seemingly suspended, each larger than the last – the Corona Lounge Chair (1964) by Poul Volther evokes the spectacular stages of a solar eclipse. The swivel base and spring steel frame ground it, gently flexing with the sitter. Now produced by Fredericia, this Space Age masterpiece was based on Volther’s Pyramid Chair from a decade before, which he developed in response to the scarcity of resources after World War II. The Corona Ottoman extends the chair’s visual impact and comfort. Made in Denmark.
